Local Motors along with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Cincinnati Incorporated AMT – The Association for Manufacturing Technology unveiled Strati, world’s first 3D-printed drivable car.

The car was built in three phases which included 3D-printing of the car over on a Cincinnati Incorporated Big Area Additive Manufacturing Machine (BAAM) using additive manufacturing.

The second phase included subtractive manufacturing where milling on the machine was done and in the third phase the car was assembled and finishing touches were added.

After the production was completed Strati took a victory lap around McCormick Place.

Local Motors CEO John B. Rogers said: "Using 3D printing, we have reimagined how cars are created using modern manufacturing techniques. The results are astounding."

"We have reduced the amount of car parts from 25,000 to less than 50, proving that we can take a car from designed to driven in less than six months. That is the game changer in the automotive world."
